China Commercial Law Firm has received approval from the State Bar of California to open an office in Sacramento, expanding its global footprint.
The Sacramento office will be the firm’s second in the US after New York. In addition to its two US offices, China Commercial has established 20 overseas branches in locations including Sydney, Toronto, Osaka, Singapore, Auckland, Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur.
Wang Qilin and Ai Xiaohong, both senior partners previously based at the firm’s Shenzhen headquarters, will serve as managing partners of the new office. Following its formal opening, they will travel between California and Shenzhen.
Both managing partners are admitted in China and the US. They have handled US section 337 investigations involving alleged trade secret infringement, as well as complex federal court cases concerning data, proprietary information, trade secrets, trade dress and patent infringement.
Wang focuses on IP litigation, antitrust litigation and administrative investigations, with experience representing Chinese technology giant Huawei in a dispute with US wireless technology company InterDigital over royalties for standard essential patents.
Ai’s practice covers cross-border recovery, cross-border e-commerce compliance and securities litigation. She also has expertise in disputes involving international sale of goods contracts, overseas franchises and overseas property.
The Sacramento office will advise on cross-border e-commerce, investment and financing, M&A and restructuring, complex cross-border dispute resolution, finance and capital markets, international projects and cross-border family and matrimonial disputes. It will also provide international legal services in civil and commercial disputes and criminal risk prevention.
China Commercial said in a press release: “California, a North American hub for technology, innovation, trade and commerce, has a well-developed commercial legal system and is an important gateway for China-US trade and economic ties.”
The firm said the California office would draw on its New York branch and local resources in North America to strengthen co-ordination between the US East Coast and West Coast. It will also work closely with China Commercial’s domestic and overseas offices to support Chinese companies expanding abroad and facilitate cross-border trade and investment.
