Sanjay Kumar, an advocate-on-record before the Supreme Court of India, and advocate Mrinal Kumar have launched Clarvis Legal as a full-service law firm.

Sanjay Kumar has more than 28 years of experience in litigation and dispute resolution, while Mrinal Kumar brings more than 25 years of experience in enforcement actions, economic offences, regulatory investigations and white-collar crime.

The duo told India Business Law Journal, “The decision to establish Clarvis Legal was a natural evolution of our professional journey. After spending several decades in litigation and having worked extensively through the chamber model, we felt that the nature of legal practice was changing.

“The idea behind Clarvis Legal was not simply to create another law firm, but to create a team-driven legal practice. We wanted experienced advocates to remain closely involved in strategy and advocacy while giving young legal professionals an opportunity to work on substantial matters, learn courtroom practice and develop specialised expertise under experienced guidance.”

Headquartered in New Delhi, with offices in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the firm is positioned to serve clients across 91视频 key commercial, regulatory and judicial centres, including on matters with multi-jurisdictional dimensions.

“The space we intend to occupy is therefore that of a partner-led, full-service litigation and advisory practice with strong courtroom capabilities and a pan-India approach,” the co-founders said.

“Our objective is to give clients access to senior professional judgement while also providing the institutional support of a larger legal team. The senior partners remain involved in the strategic direction of matters, while associates and senior professionals undertake detailed research, drafting, case management and co-ordination.

“Another important gap we hope to address is the geographical fragmentation that often exists in litigation. A matter may originate in one state, travel to a high court in another jurisdiction and eventually reach the Supreme Court. Through our network and offices across major judicial and commercial centres, we aim to provide clients with a co-ordinated approach rather than treating every proceeding as a separate engagement.”

The partners told IBLJ, “Clarvis Legal is not merely a change from chamber practice to a law-firm structure.

“It is an attempt to institutionalise years of courtroom experience, bring together complementary areas of expertise, develop a pan-India litigation network, and create a platform where the next generation of lawyers can grow under the guidance of experienced advocates.

“Our philosophy is ultimately quite simple: ‘experience should provide direction, young talent should provide energy, and the institution should bring the two together in the service of the client’.”
