Jingtian & Gongcheng has hired Liao Jun, Cheng Keni and Gu Peitao as partners in its Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shanghai offices, respectively, strengthening the firm’s capabilities in capital markets, data compliance and dispute resolution.
Before joining Jingtian & Gongcheng, Liao was a senior partner at DeHeng Law Offices in Chongqing. He joined DeHeng’s Chongqing office as a lawyer in 2012 and was promoted to senior partner in 2020. Earlier in his career, he practised at King & Wood.
Liao has extensive experience in securities issuance and capital markets. His practice covers domestic and overseas securities offerings, funds and private equity, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring and reorganisation.
In capital markets, Liao has advised clients, including Chongqing Rural Commercial Bank, Hanhua Financial Holding, Zhifei Biological Products, Chongqing Water Group, Chongqing Gas Group, Chongqing Sanfeng Environment Group and Three Gorges Water Conservancy and Electric Power.
In acquisitions and asset restructurings, his past clients include Lear Corporation, TBEA, Kelin Environmental Protection and Lootom Telcovideo Network.
Cheng previously practised at Advance Law Office’s Guangzhou branch, where she was a senior partner and chair of the management committee. She has substantial experience in data and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as the culture, sports and tourism sectors.
In data and AI, Cheng has advised clients from various industries, including China Resources Gas, China Mobile, Vanguard D-Tech Commercial Data, China UMS, Shenzhen Yantian Port Group, GLB Intelligent Power, Guangdong Museum and Tangshan Heat Power.
In culture, sports and tourism, her past clients include Guangdong Guangqing Holding, Chimelong Group, Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province and time-honoured Chinese brand Xinbaotang. She also served as legal adviser to the Guangzhou organising committee for the 15th National Games in 2024, and the National Games for Persons with Disabilities and National Special Olympics in 2025.
Gu has both private practice and judicial experience, having worked at Shanghai Fengxian District People’s Court for 12 years. He began practising as a lawyer at Guoshi Law Firm in 2023 and later served as executive director of the firm’s management committee.
Gu focuses on dispute resolution in the finance and securities sectors. He has advised several listed companies, unicorns, as well as high-tech, state-owned and centrally administered enterprises. His clients are in diverse industries, including aerospace, new energy, new materials, AI, biomedicine, semiconductors, intelligent vehicles and robotics.
