Global law firm Clifford Chance has advised Searah on a USD6.6 billion revolving credit facility for upstream oil and gas assets in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Searah is a 50:50 joint venture between Italian energy company Eni and Malaysian oil and gas conglomerate Petronas.

Clifford Chance advised on the international aspects of the credit facility. The firm’s team was led by Singapore-based partner Chin Seng Chew, senior associates Alberto Maero, Jitr Vilaivongse and Ken Li, and associate Ivan Ting.

Partners Nicholas Wong, Craig Nethercott, Jemma Dick and Olivia Higgs, along with associates Marco Montanaro and Tom Masters provided additional support.

Clifford Chance said it also worked closely with Eni’s in-house legal team, comprising Federica Andreoni, Nicola Ghedi, Stefano Torta and Edward Rand, as well as Petronas’ legal team.

The multinationals, Eni and Petronas, officially established Searah on 8 June 2026, bringing together a portfolio of 19 upstream oil and gas assets – 14 in Indonesia and five in Malaysia – covering exploration, development and production.

Searah will start with an initial production base of more than 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), with the aim of exceeding 500,000 boe/d of sustainable production within the next three years.
