Zul Rafique & Partners has welcomed back Imran Ismail as a partner to expand its litigation, and shipping and maritime practice groups.
Ismail was a legal associate at the firm from 2010 to 2012 before holding various roles elsewhere, including as head of litigation at Melanie Legal. Most recently, he served as head of the Content Regulation Department at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
He specialises in commercial and corporate litigation, shareholder and contractual disputes, debt recovery, insolvency, fraud and asset recovery, employment disputes and regulatory matters. His expertise further extends to M&A, corporate restructurings, legal due diligence and the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements.
“Imran’s appointment is a strategic addition to our litigation, and shipping and maritime practice groups. Having started his legal career with Zul Rafique & Partners in 2010, he has since developed a strong track record in complex commercial disputes and built significant experience advising businesses on contentious, corporate and regulatory matters,” Lukman Sheriff Alias, managing partner at Zul Rafique & Partners, told Asia Business Law Journal.
“His experience as a head of litigation prior to this role has also given him valuable insight into managing complex matters and understanding the broader commercial considerations that our clients face.”
Alias said the firm would continue to grow its litigation, and shipping and maritime practices, but “in a considered and strategic manner”.
