Fangda Partners has added Zhang Shihai as a partner at its Shanghai office, bolstering its compliance and government enforcement practice.
Zhang was a partner at Yingke Law Firm and Boss & Young Attorneys at Law from 2012, spending three years and 11 years at the firms, respectively, both based in Shanghai.
Before returning to private practice, Zhang spent five years as a law enforcement officer at the Shanghai Administration for Industry and Commerce, the predecessor of Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation, the city’s authority responsible for business registration and market supervision.
Earlier in his career, from 2005 to 2007, he worked as a part-time attorney at Chongqing-based Xueyuan Law Firm.
Zhang focuses on compliance and government enforcement, with extensive experience in anti-commercial bribery, unfair competition, advertising compliance, food safety, consumer protection, product quality and recalls. He has long advised multinational and Chinese companies on compliance matters and represented clients in complex government investigations.
He also advises clients in the pharmaceutical, medical device and consumer goods sectors on responding to government investigations and crisis management, as well as compliance and internal investigations.
Michael Han, chairman of Fangda’s management committee, said in a press release: “Zhang has extensive practical experience in compliance and a deep understanding of regulatory rules, industry characteristics and companies’ practical needs. His arrival will further deepen the expertise of Fangda’s compliance and government enforcement practice.”
