Singapore law firm Focus Law Asia has strengthened its maritime and shipping practice with the addition of three lawyers, including Augustine Liew, who will serve as a consultant and head of shipping and admiralty.

Liew previously worked at Incisive Law, where he was a consultant and head of admiralty.

He is joined at Focus Law Asia by associate director Shanen Nanoo and associate Hejaz Goush. Nanoo is also from Incisive Law, having served as an associate director at the firm for more than two years, while Goush arrives from Goush Marikan Law Practice, where he was most recently an associate.

Liew specialises in a wide range of maritime and shipping matters, including charterparty issues and claims, ship collisions, tug and tow incidents, oil pollution, ship sinking, and ship sale and purchase disputes. His expertise further extends to advisory work, court litigation, mediation and arbitration.

“Augustine has a longstanding reputation as a leader in shipping and maritime law, and brings to Focus Law Asia significant experience and know-how, particularly in wet shipping matters,” Focus Law Asia managing director Shem Khoo told Asia Business Law Journal.

“While the firm was not actively seeking senior lateral hires, when we became aware that Augustine and his team were available, the opportunity to bring them into the firm was a compelling one. Their arrival strengthens and broadens our existing shipping and maritime capabilities, in both wet and dry shipping work.”

Nanoo advises clients across the full spectrum of charterparty, bills of lading, shipbuilding, commodities, casualty and marine insurance disputes. As for Goush, he focuses on shipping litigation and arbitration across wet and dry shipping matters.
