Freshfields has appointed Tim Mak as the firm’s Hong Kong managing partner to succeed Matthew O’Callaghan, who remains as regional managing partner for Asia.
Mak joined Freshfields in September 2013 and leads the firm’s Asia dispute resolution practice. He has more than 25 years of experience and specialises in advising on complex commercial disputes, regulatory investigations and enforcement matters across Greater China, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the US and the UK.
His clients include investment banks, private banks, insurers, asset managers, payments companies and digital asset service providers.
Before joining Freshfields, Mak worked at Herbert Smith Freehills, now known as HSF Kramer, for almost 17 years across two separate tenures. Between those stints, he served as assistant counsel at Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission from May 2000 to March 2002.
